A "Bringing Home the Bayou" Event

A Night to Honor the 9th Ward of New Orleans

What is the event?
A fund raising dinner to supplement the grass roots hurricane relief efforts of the Sisters of Holy Angel who have lived and worked in the Ninth ward community for over 150 years. Activities on this festive night will include:

  • Live New Orleans Jazz
  • Southern Cooking, including Cajun foods
  • A Live Auction
  • A Special Appearance by Sister Clarita, spokesperson for Sisters of Holy Angel

Why the Ninth Ward?
Located adjacent to the Mississippi River, The Ninth Ward was ground zero of the Hurricane Katrina devastation. During the hurricane, a barge penetrated and caused failure of the levee, the only protection for an old residential neighborhood area known as the ByWater area. Hurricane Rita further pummeled the area one month later. While the federal and state governments have spent billions of dollars since Hurricane Katrina in the tourist areas, little has reached the Ninth Ward, particularly the Lower Ninth Ward, which contains some of the poorest population in New Orleans. Two years after the hurricane, it looks more like a war zone more than an urban community.

What is 1.2.1?
1.2.1. is a grassroots foundation that is sponsoring the event for Bringing Home the Bayou. We believe one human being can help another. No overhead, no bureaucracy. A local order of nuns serving the 9th Ward of New Orleans, has been providing small grants of up to $300 per family for necessary expenses such as electricity bills, food purchases, housing for the aged and other immediate needs. This event will give 100% of the profits to the sisters to allow the distribution of either more grants or a second $300. grant to a family. We hope to raise $60,000, doubling the sisters $5,000. per month budget over the next year.

Are there sponsorship opportunities?
In addition to individual tickets, the following sponsorship opportunities exist:

  • Preservation Hall Society:
$10,000 (includes 8 tickets, collateral prominence)
  • Mardi Gras Ball:
$5,000 (includes 6 tickets, collateral presence)
  • Fat Tuesday:
$2,500 (includes 4 tickets, collateral presence)
